Why support Sheffield?

For over 100 years individual benefactors have played an important role in the University's development.

The University was established in 1905 largely on the gifts of local people. Buildings, equipment, research and student support - all aspects of today's University - have benefited from the support of individuals who care about the life and work of the University.

Support through gifts and legacies has been tremendously important in ensuring that Sheffield remains a centre of international excellence in both teaching and research.

With changes in government funding, the University is becoming increasingly reliant upon the generosity of private individuals to remain an internationally renowned seat of learning.

      Who gives to Sheffield?

Alumni, staff, and friends of the University, living in Sheffield, the UK, and overseas, have all helped in many different ways. We are very grateful for their generosity and support.

"Having enjoyed being an undergraduate at the University (twice!!) and as a member of Council and Pro-Chancellor, I felt it important to support and encourage in a practical way, the work of this great University"

Mrs Kathryn Riddle, Pro-Chancellor (BA 1967 and LLB 1986)

Some of our benefactors have no direct link to the University but they have a huge pride in what the University has done, and continues to do, for the city, the region and at an international level.

        Where does my donation go?

Your donation will make a significant difference to the life and work of the University. Alumni contributions have funded much needed student scholarships, facilities and equipment, research, and student welfare and recreational opportunities. Please download the 'Donor News' newsletter from the right hand margin, and visit the Alumni Fund page to find out more.

Please consider supporting the University through a donation to the Alumni Fund, and/or by including a gift in your Will. Select from the left hand menu for more information.
